People Operations Coordinator

Laura Sue Johnson

At the heart of Laura Sue’s work is something pretty simple: she genuinely cares about people.

Born and raised in Savannah, Georgia, Laura Sue headed north to Milligan University for college and eventually landed in North Georgia, where she now lives with her family. She spent her early career teaching high school English, which, as it turns out, is pretty great preparation for a career in People Ops. Both require curiosity, flexibility, a sense of humor, and a love for people.

When Laura Sue transitioned from the classroom into people operations, she was pleasantly surprised to learn that much of what she loved about teaching came with her.

She cares deeply about the people she serves and the organizations they build. She loves creating spaces where people feel like they can show up as themselves. She’s energized by encouraging others to grow. Ultimately, she wants people to know they matter, and to feel seen and cared for.

When Laura Sue reflects on what she’s most proud of in her career, it’s less about titles or accomplishments and more about the relationships she’s made along the way. More than two decades after she first stepped into a classroom, former students still keep in touch, now grown with careers and families of their own. The same is true of people she’s worked with and supported in talent and People Ops. Laura Sue considers those lasting relationships the greatest gift of her work and believes that, in the big picture: we’re really just walking each other home.

Outside of work, Laura Sue loves time with family and friends, cooking, and interior design, so there’s almost always a house project underway. She loves a good hike, too. Walking England’s Cotswold Way and exploring the trails around Banff are next on the dream list.
