Brand and UI Designer

Alison Black

As a freshman in high school, Alison took her first graphic design class and never looked back.

Taking a creative path wasn't hard thanks to supportive parents who trusted her instincts and an art department most high schools could only dream of. Incredible teachers went out of their way to help her build creative skills in design, drawing, art history, and film. Those skills prepared her to attend Monmouth University, where she earned a BFA in Graphic Design.

Leaving college with a love for layout and magazine design, Alison was surprised to find herself drawn to brand design. Her branding “true loves” are moodboards and color palettes, but she’ll gladly deep dive on any visual element you throw at her.

While she's spent time working at agencies and in-house, the biggest chunk of her career (eight years!) was spent as Art Director of an NYC-based studio where she worked with B2B & B2C startups in health and wellness, FemTech, FinTech, PropTech, and SaaS, as well as the venture capital firms that funded them. She’s also an active member of the creative community, participating in AIGA events and attending conferences like UnderConsideration's First Round.

Balancing between practicality and intuition, Alison’s creative philosophy is to look for the moment when business goals, brand strategy, and visual elements sync up and her gut suddenly says “yes, that’s it.” Guided by integrity, she sticks to her principles, asks tough questions, and believes that kind, courageous conversations produce the most successful outcomes.

Never too far from the water, she lives close to family on Long Island with her amazing husband and walks to the coffee shop at the dock for a matcha at every opportunity. When she's not crafting brands, you can find her at a new restaurant, listening to a true crime podcast, scrapbooking, and indulging in her love for Bravo.
